Windstar Cruises
Windstar Cruises - Small and intimate sailing ships, upscale but casually elegant
Windstar Cruises offer a casually elegant on-board experience, with plenty of emphasis on relaxing, water-sports and visiting quieter and more unusual ports of call. Sailing aboard a Windstar yacht, passengers can enjoy a laid-back and intimate cruise, in a relaxed but refined environment with few scheduled activities and timetables. Windstar Cruises are ideal for couples, and those looking for an adult-orientated, private yacht experience, with an air of sophistication.
Windstar Cruises - Few scheduled activities, plenty of water-sports
The company started in 1986, with the launch of the first ship, Wind Star. She was followed by Wind Song (no longer in service), Wind Spirit and lastly, Wind Surf, the newest ship which joined the Windstar Cruises fleet in 1998. Wind Star and Wind Spirit have capacity for 148 passengers with the larger Wind Surf carrying 312. All of the Windstar ships are computerised sailing ships, using engines as well as their sails, and have all undergone recent refurbishment. Cabins on board a Windstar cruise are spacious, with luxury touches such as upgraded bedding and upscale products and amenities in the rooms. Water-sports marinas are a focal point of a Windstar cruise, and offer the chance for scuba-diving and complimentary kayaking, water skiing and windsurfing. Entertainment is low-key, with no organised activities, and evening meals feature gourmet international fare, with an informal open-seating policy (alcohol is not included on a Windstar cruise).

Windstar Cruises - Accessing smaller, more exclusive ports of call
Itineraries on a Windstar Cruise feature the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Costa Rica and the Panama Canal. Wind Spirit and Wind Surf tend to sail the Caribbean, whilst Wind Star cruises the Mediterranean. The smaller size of the Windstar yachts means that they can visit more inaccessible ports, stopping at more exclusive harbours - such as Amalfi, Portofino and Naxos in Europe and St. Barts and St. Thomas in the Caribbean - thus giving passengers a charming and more unique sailing experience.
