Founded in 1994 by the Lefebvre family in Italy, Silversea Cruises started with a single ship, the 16,800 ton Silver Cloud, with capacity for 298 guests. She was followed by the similar-sized Silver Wind, and, by 2001 Silversea had added two larger ship to the fleet, the Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper - both 28,258 tons and with a passenger capacity of 382. The Silversea fleet of 4 exclusive ships have luxury all-suite accommodations, with spacious cabins and 80% of all rooms having balconies. Decor on a Silversea cruise is refined and tasteful, with a distinct European style. Dining on-board is the highlight of the cruise for many, being of five-star gourmet quality, with open-seating throughout the Silversea ships and no charge for the alternative reservation-only restaurants. Silversea cruises include tips, wine, all port charges and one shore excursion, and they offer an all-inclusive air-and-sea package including all fares, transfers and pre-cruise accommodation.
