The cruise line boasts more worldwide itineraries than any other, with Princess Cruises offering familiar destinations such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, as well as more unusual routes including Africa, the South Pacific and Asia. Princess Cruises remains a market leader in cruises to Alaska, with as many as 8 liners which sail the region, and still has a strong presence in the Mexican Riviera, the destination of its very first cruises. The 17 ships vary in size dramatically, ranging from the Grand-class Caribbean Princess with her capacity for 3,100 passengers, to the smaller Pacific Princess which can hold just 670. Princess Cruise ships offer one of the highest percentage of cabins with balconies in the industry, and, having launched half of its fleet in the last 10 years, boasts one of the most modern fleets at sea today. The Princess Cruise Line is also known for its innovative new additions, such as the flexible Anytime Dining and the educational ScholarShip@Sea programmes.
Princess Cruises - Established history, romantic theme
The line was launched in 1965, and shot to fame in the '70's in the cult US TV show, 'The Love Boat', which featured the Island Princess and the Pacific Princess. The company continues to carry a romance theme throughout their cruises, remaining a favourite for anniversaries and boasting an 'Engagement under the Stars' feature, and is still the only major American cruise line on which the ships' captain can perform wedding ceremonies.
